Blogmas 2020 Books coming out in the next month.

Books coming in December 2020

So this is it, the last month of 2020. Thank fuck for that! So I’ve decided for this December I’m going to try and do a blog post for every single day. It’s a lot of work but I’m very optimistic that I can do it. So the first post is going to be this month’s new books. Lets go!

A Universe Of Wishes

 By Dhonielle Clayton (Editor)

December 8th 2020

So what’s it about?

In the fourth collaboration with We Need Diverse Books, fifteen award-winning and celebrated diverse authors deliver stories about a princess without need of a prince, a monster long misunderstood, memories that vanish with a spell, and voices that refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice. This powerful and inclusive collection contains a universe of wishes for a braver and more beautiful world.

Why I want to read it.

I love story collections and fantasy so this sounds like the perfect combo for me!

Mediocre

By Ijeoma Oluo

December 1st 2020

So what’s it about?

After the election of Donald Trump, and the escalation of white male rage and increased hostility toward immigrants that came with him, New York Times-bestselling author Ijeoma Oluo found herself in conversation with Americans around the country, pondering one central question: How did we get here? In this ambitious survey of the last century of American history, Oluo answers that question by pinpointing white men’s deliberate efforts to subvert women, people of color, and the disenfranchised. Through research, interviews, and the powerful, personal writing for which she is celebrated, Oluo investigates the backstory of America’s growth, from immigrant migration to our national ethos around ingenuity, from the shaping of economic policy to the protection of sociopolitical movements that fortify male power. In the end, she shows how white men have long maintained a stranglehold on leadership and sorely undermined the pursuit of happiness for all.

Why I want to read it.

I love these sorts of books, It’s a strange sort of fascination with books that are inherently depressing. I think this’ll be really interesting and an important sort of read.

Sea Of Kings

By Melissa Hope

December 1st 2020

So what’s it about?

Thirteen-year-old Prince Noa has hated the ocean since the day it caused his mother’s death. But staying away from the sea isn’t easy on his tropical island home where he’s stuck trying to keep up with his dim-witted and overconfident younger brother Dagan–the brawn to Noa’s brains. When a vengeful pirate lays siege to their home, Noa and Dagan narrowly escape with their lives. Armed with a stolen ship, a haphazardly assembled crew, and a magical map that makes as much sense as slugs in a salt bath, the brothers set sail for the realm’s other kingdoms in search of help. But navigating the sea proves deadlier than Noa’s worst fears. To free his home, Noa must solve the map’s confusing charts and confront the legendary one-eyed pirate before an evil force spreads across the realm and destroys the very people Noa means to protect.

Why I want to read it.

I meant there is nothing in this book that doesn’t excite me! It is about pirates and there’s a magic map, what more could I want from a book?
