Quotes I love!

Day 16 of Blogmas, welcome! 9 more days to go! At the end of this post I’ve tagged the last post of Blogmas on top of that all the Blogmas posts are tagged so just search Blogmas 2020 on my blog to find them all.

So today I wanted to talk about book quotes. I love a good quote, something that you can’t stop thinking about when you step away from a book. There’s so many quotes that even after years of reading that book it still holds a place in my heart. So the way I’m going to do this is pick a book and a quote and then talk a little about that quote.

Series of Unfortunate Events

This was one I was obviously going to mention, we all know how much I love this series, so I thought this would be a good place to start. I actually have a tattoo on my ankle based around this book with a quote.

‘The world is quiet here.’

This is the quote I have along with the VFD logo. It’s a quote written above the library at the VFD HQ and honestly this is something special to me in a literal sense. The library is my safe place, it’s where I go to get away from the world. It’s my quiet place.

‘A library is like an island in the middle of a vast sea of ignorance, particularly if the library is very tall and the surrounding area has been flooded.’

One of the things I love the most about Lemony snicket is that what seems like a deep meaningful quote is actually just something simple. This is the perfect example, of course it has a deeper meaning but honestly it’s just about a library that’s been flooded.

‘You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.’

I love this quote so much. <3

Carry on

‘Just when you think you’re having a scene without Simon, he drops in to remind you that everyone else is a supporting character in his catastrophe.’

This is just an interesting quote for this book, I think it speaks volumes of the two characters involved.

‘The front seat is for people who’ve never been kidnapped by bloody numpties. Jesus Christ, Baz.’

I-fucking-conic.

‘You were the sun, and I was crashing into you. I’d wake up every morning and think, “This will end in flames.”’

This is another one I kind of had to include. If you know anything about Carry On and Rainbow Rowell you know this quote is something special. Again I think it speaks volumes about them as characters and who they are as a couple.

IT

‘Your hair is winter fire, January embers, My heart burns there, too.’

This was a pretty obvious one, anyone who has either read the book or seen the movies/tv series will know all about this quote but I still do think it deserves a mention.

‘Eddie discovered one of his childhood’s great truths. Grownups are the real monsters, he thought.’

When I read the book one of the main things I remember is when Ben has his runin with Bowers. He talks about how a car drove back and even though he begged for help the adults just kept driving. This is a theme throughout the book, that adults couldn’t be trusted, and I think this book perfectly sums this up.

‘He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts’

This is a super important quote throughout the book and I really love it, I think it has a much deeper meaning about strength and power.

To Kill a Mockingbird

You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.’

This is definitely a quote to live by, it’s all about how you never know anything a person has been through till you stand by them and do it yourself.

‘Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.’

Well what is there to say. This is perfect.

‘People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for.’

I really like this one. And I know for a fact it speaks the truth.
