About me

The TBR Trap

So I know it’s a running joke in the bookish community that you TBR list is normally a lot bigger than the books they’ve actually read, I love the memes on Instagram and Facebook, but as a reader with very little money, room and someone with a need to not get trapped in this meme I’ve made a rule to not get trapped into this TBR trap. So today I want to talk about how to stop

your TBR from overwhelming you as well as the books that are currently on my physical TBR trolley.

I mostly just don’t buy books, I guess that’s a pretty obvious thing to say but it’s true. I only buy books under some circumstances, If I see a book I really want then I’ll get it, if I go to a special bookshop that I’ve been desperate to go to I’ll treat myself. An example of this is when I went to Wigtown last month, somewhere I wanted to go, so I knew I had some books I wanted to get specifically from there

If I already have the first book in the series and want to read the rest then I will go out and buy then and finally I collect a couple of book series, the Roald Dahl books and the Horrible History books being examples of this. The reason for this is. I don’t want to feel like I’ve got a straightjacket on so I do buy books. And of course I sometimes get gifted books.

I also wanted to talk about what books are on my TBR trolley. So I recently got myself a raskog (am I a real blogger yet?!) and I’m using this to house my TBRs, It’s working really well and I’m really liking it. It also helps me keep my collection of books down.

So! My collection:

I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

This was a book that was recommended by a friend. I’m going to read this soon.

Fangirl By Rainbow Rowell

I mean if you follow kind of book influencer or community you know how huge this book was and still is. I got this one to follow the hype train!

Maskerade by Terry Pratchett

I was given this book years ago and never got round to reading it. I would love to read the whole series at some point.

BioShock: Rapture by John Shirley

I am probably going to unhaul this one but it’s a book I got after playing the video game.

Leadership: In Turbulent Times Doris Kearns Goodwin

This was was a book I was given by my brother. He highly recommended it, so here it is.

Goldfinger by Ian Fleming

This was a book I bought but I’ve kind of been putting off. I’ve heard Fleming’s writing is a little problematic in the way he writes woman and that makes me nervous.

Ready player one by Ernest Cline

This is another book I got because I had heard really good things about it.

Associates of Sherlock Holmes by a couple of authors

This just looked interesting.

Zom-B and Zom-B Underground by Darren Shan

I can’t remember where these books came from but I read the first one then just forgot about the story so never moved onto the second one.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

I got this book for free but I know very little about it.

Can You Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? by Max Brallier

This was another gift and a book I have read before but it’s a choose your own adventure book so I want to go and read it again.

Outsider in the White House by Bernie Sanders, Huck Gutman (As told by), John Nichols (Afterword)

I got this one when I was in America and on a huge American politics kick.

Death Cloud, Red Leech and Black Ice by Andy Lane

These are more books I was given and just haven’t got round to reading.

The Racehorse Who Disappeared by Clare Balding

This was a book I got because I liked the illustrations honestly.

A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

I love BBC Sherlock but I’ve never read the originals so that’s the plan.

Cash by Johnny Cash

I am A huge Cash fan so I really look forward to reading his book and learning a little more about him.

Shouldn’t You Be in School? by Lemony Snicket

Snicket is my favourite author but it pains me to admit I never finished this book. But I kept the book in the hope I would get back into it.

The Beach by Alex Garland

This was another book I was given by a friend and haven’t got round to yet.

So there you have it, a quick rundown of everything on to TBR and why they’re there!
